Marquette celebrates reaching the Sweet 16 wearing the Jordan Evolution ’85.
words // Nick Engvall
This weekend in the NCAA Tournament the Cinderella stories made themselves known. Eighth-seeded Butler, 10th-seeded Florida State, 11th-seeded Virginia Commonwealth, 11th-seeded Marquette, and-12th seeded Richmond all did their part to throw off most of the world’s brackets. Each of the five teams moved into the Sweet 16 with upset victories that seemed to reiterate why people call it March Madness.
While the Cinderella teams move on, a handful of favorites took an early bow out of the tournament at the hands of these surprise winners. Teams like first-seeded Pitt, second-seeded Notre Dame, third-seeded Syracuse, and third-seeded Purdue, all fell victim to the ever-present upset.
With all the upsets in the third round of the NCAA Tournament, it seems that nobody in the world has a shot at a perfect bracket. How is your bracket holding up?
