Les Miles and his LSU Tigers celebrate their season-opening victory over the Oregon Ducks.

It was the match-up everyone was waiting for all summer. Although each team was a bit shorthanded, both were ready to go in front of more than 80,000 fans at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. While they were shorthanded on offense, backup quarterback Jarrett Lee and the LSU Tigers capitalized on four Oregon Ducks turnovers to earn the 40-26 victory. LSU running back Michael Ford rushed for two touchdowns, tallying a total of 94 rushing yards in the season-opening victory.

The rest of the top five was also clicking on all cylinders, with the Alabama Crimson Tide and Oklahoma Sooners both routing their opponents for season-opening victories. Nick Saban and his Crimson Tide manhandled Kent State, putting up a total of 48 points courtesy of their strong backfield. #1 ranked Oklahoma also had it rather simple to kick the season off, blowing out Tulsa 47-14. The Sooners were led by walk-on running back Dominique Whaley, who scored four touchdowns and ended the game with a total of 130 rushing yards.
