Ohio State showed why they're the favorites on Friday.

words // Nick Engvall

The amount of teams in the NCAA Tournament was drastically reduced on Friday. Sixteen more teams were sent home, leaving just 32 remaining from the original field of 68. Friday’s action was as exciting as you would expect.

For fans of the top seed in the West, the Duke Blue Devils, the return of Kyrie Irving from injury was celebrated with a blowout of the Hampton Pirates. Irving scored 14 points in his first game back since early December, and Duke prevailed 87-45. For sixth-ranked Georgetown and Chris Wright, his return didn’t go so smoothly. Wright struggled from the field, as did the rest of the Hoyas, losing to 11th-ranked VCU by the score of 74-56.

Ohio State, who also showed why they deserved the top seed in the NCAA Tournament, defeated the University of Texas at San Antonio by the score of 75-46.
