It’ll be tough for the Colorado Buffaloes to land a spot in the NCAA Championship Tournament, but the play of guard Alec Burks has given the team a chance. When you talk about Player of the Week, you’re definitely looking for big numbers, but also the intangibles that come along with them. Almost single-handedly saving your team’s season has to rank high on the list, and that’s why Burks takes home the honors this week.

Burks started the week with a solid 14-point, eight-rebound effort in a 71-68 win over Texas Tech, but it was his performance Saturday against Texas that nabbed him Player of the Week. The standout sophomore guard tallied up 33 points, 10 rebounds and four assists to help the Buffaloes upset the fifth-ranked Texas Longhorns. Burks scored 24 of his 33 in the second half, where the Buffaloes erased a 22-point halftime deficit. With their tournament hopes thin, Burks’ big game could be described as a season-saver.

With a signature win under their belts, will the Colorado Buffaloes make their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2003?
