Facing stiff competition from Orlando’s Dwight Howard, it’s Portland Trail Blazers‘ big man LaMarcus Aldridge that takes home this week’s Eastbay Player of the Week. With Brandon Roy sidelined, it has been up to Aldridge to carry the Blazers on his back, and he’s done just that. In games last week, Aldridge racked up 38 points and seven rebounds a game, leading Portland to a 3-0 week and the sixth Seed in the Western Conference.

In a big-time win over the Eastern Conference powerhouse Chicago Bulls, Aldridge scored 42 points (a new career high) and collected eight rebounds in a 109-103 win. He followed up with 36 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in Toronto to give Portland a 102-96 edge. LaMarcus finished the week coming up big in Detroit, recording 36 points, four rebounds and three assists in a 105-100 victory over the Pistons.

Earlier in the month, LaMarcus Aldridge was “snubbed” from the 2011 NBA All-Star Game. Do you think he should have been selected, or is the competition too stiff out West?
