Last week marked the arrival of pitchers and catchers to Spring Training in either Florida or Arizona, depending on the clubs’ pre-season locale. This week, our MLB Watch coverage gives you the first look as the position players from around the league arrived for workouts.
As you can expect every year, there are always a few surprises in store when the players start to hit the field. Not only are there more trades and signings than you can possibly imagine, but sometimes players make equipment changes as well. Obviously new models begin to pop up as the players ditch last season’s equipment and break in the new gear before the regular season begins on the last day of March.
This week some fan favorites made their way to new teams for the first time. Vladimir Guerrero joined the Baltimore Orioles for the first time since his off-season signing, while Hideki Matsui was seen wearing the green and gold of the Oakland A’s for the first time. As for the equipment changes, only one stood out this week. San Francisco Giants pitcher Tim Lincecum took to the mound wearing Mizuno cleats as opposed to last season’s Reebok Vero IV.
