Cliff Lee tossed a two-hit shutout against the Boston Red Sox yesterday to lead the Philadelphia Phillies to their 50th win of the season. Lee improved to 9-5 on the season as the Phillies, a pre-season favorite to win the World Series, became the first to win 50 games this year. Lee’s complete game shutout is his third in as many starts as the Phillies have had a strong month and are finally beginning to look like the most dominate team in the league.
In other action, the San Francisco Giants saw one of their aces return to action after injury. Barry Zito returned to throw 7 innings and lead the Giants to their 7th consecutive victory in the back end of a double header against the Chicago Cubs.
