Miguel Cabrera is one of many players wearing New Balance cleats this spring.

It’s rare that players make the move from one brand to another during the regular season, but the off-season and Spring Training, that’s the time, as a player, to explore your options for new baseball equipment. In last week’s MLB Watch coverage, we saw Giants ace Tim Lincecum had switched up from the Reebok’s he wore last season into a pair Mizuno baseball cleats. This week, Lincecum seems to be exploring other options, opting for a pair of Nike baseball cleats in his recent outing.
Lincecum isn’t the only one who has made a switch during the off-season. It seems a lot of players have shown up for Spring Training wearing New Balance baseball cleats, Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera being one of the biggest names seen sporting the iconic “N” on the side of his shoes.
For other players like Matt Holliday or Ichiro Suzuki, however, changing brands isn’t part of the plan. Both Holliday and Ichiro were seen this week with some updated Player Exclusive cleats from their partners Nike and Asics, respectively.

Tim Linceum looking skinner each year, but hopefully he can earn his 3rd Cy Young and help take the Giants to the playoffs again. It’s weird that the Giants almost had another Tsuyoshi on the team. Last time we had a Tsuyoshi was when we failed to make the world series.
Good numbers are expected from Tim this year following his World Series win. But not so much on Tsuyoshi.
