This Saturday, the Jordan Brand will take the Air Jordan 5 to a place it’s never been with the “3Lab5” release. The shoe inherits the Air Jordan 3s iconic Cement Grey elephant print in all-over fashion, complementing the look with hits of black and Gamma Blue. This drop falls in the middle of a stacked lineup of Air Jordan 5 releases that will continue throughout the rest of the year.

With 2013 being the Year of the Air Jordan 5, today’s Eastbay Memory Lane takes us back to January 2000, when the classic was released as a retro for the very first time. The original “Fire Red” colorway popped up alongside the Air Jordan XV at a time when the retro game hadn’t yet become a “craze.” Team models like the Team J and Team Post also find a home on this page, as does the original Trunner.

The Air Jordan 5 is definitely one of the most beloved models in the series. Do you have any memories of picking up a pair of retros when they first hit the scene 13 years ago? How many different colorways have you grabbed this year? Share with us in the comment section below.
