Since 1989, adidas has been the official sponsor of the Annual Boston Marathon. The brand’s running and training categories are strong as ever today with models like the ClimaCool Ride, adiZero Feather and Titan Hypermotion amongst runners’ favorites. Today, Eastbay Memory Lane travels back to the summer of 1996, where we’ll take a look back at some 15-year old adidas training shoes.
The first thing you’ll see is apparel celebrating the 100th running of the Boston Marathon, a huge milestone for the event. Tees, varsity jackets and hoodies were just some of the pieces made available at Eastbay. The adidas SL96 was the official shoe of the Boston Marathon, seen here in a special marathon exclusive colorway with the commemorative patch on the heel.
What’s also remarkable is seeing how some of the lines and technologies are still part of the adidas running and training lines in 2011. Back in 1996, you had the adidas Response Support; now, there’s the adidas Response Cushion 20 and adidas Response Trail 18. Of course, the adidas Equipment Shoes are still strong on the market, particularly in retro form.
Have you ever taken the road for a marathon? Any readers ever participated in the Boston Marathon? Share some of your experiences with us as well as any memories you may have of these adidas training shoes from 1996.
