With the Green Bay Packers winning the Super Bowl yesterday, you had to know that today’s stroll down Eastbay Memory Lane was going to have to be football-inspired. Looking back to 1996 both the Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers were the focal point of the Nike Football catalog, however just like in 2011, it was only the Packers that stood alone as the Super Bowl Champs back then.

On the back cover of the 1996 Nike Football catalog, the Nike Air Slant and Nike Air Vapor were highlighted, as well as the unforgettable “Emerald” colorway of the Nike Air Griffey Max. Although the Air Vapor has since been lost in the mix of Nike’s re-use of the name amongst other genres, the Air Slant has remained an icon amongst football fans. The Air Slant’s popularity back in 1996, when it originally released, was above and beyond nearly every other football-inspired training sneaker on the market, and for those that remember, it will always be on plenty of sneakerheads’ wish lists.
