Eastbay Turkey Trot Raises $43,000
For seven years runners & walkers have been joining families and friends for the annual Eastbay Turkey Trot in Wausau, WI. This has become a tradition for many, some racing for time, some dressing up as pilgrims or turkeys and others just enjoying a morning workout before heading home to give thanks and watch football.
In addition to selling out the 1,500 registration spots, Eastbay collected $43,000 and 960 pounds of food for Marathon County Hunger Coalition. The dollars raised will go toward the Hunger Coalition’s purchasing of healthy food for area food pantries to supplement the donations from the public.
Wausau Mayor Robert Mielke, Eastbay Vice President of Human Resources Carrie Madson, and the Wausau Fire Department help kicked off this year’s event. The Wausau Fire Department raised a 60-foot-high flag and runners took off from the Eastbay parking lot to race the 5K route through downtown Wausau.
This event wouldn’t be possible without the support of the many volunteers, sponsors and community members who donate time and resources to make this event possible. Amanda Murphy, Employment Brand Strategist commented about the event, “We are ever so grateful for the generosity of our community and of our associates. It takes many hands to put on this event. Because of them, we are able to make a difference in Marathon County.”
