The Tarkanian Classic Is Almost Here!

Tarkanian Classic 1

Basketball fans, take note – this year’s Tarkanian Classic takes place on December 19-23. And if the action is anything like last year’s epic event, expect fireworks as many of the top high school basketball players on the planet take to Las Vegas.

Eastbay is a proud partner of this marquee event, which is attended by a large number of national scouts and premiere colleges. Before the opening tip, we wanted to breakdown what to expect for this year so we turned to Bishop Gorman senior Jamal Bey. The small forward and Washington Husky commit competed in last year’s tourney and his high school is the host school for plenty of the games throughout the week.

Tarkanian Classic 2

Bishop Gorman senior Jamal Bey is ready to shine during this year’s Tark Classic.

Q: Last year, Bishop Gorman lost a tough one to Mater Dei in the semi-finals. What can we expect from your squad this time around?

A: We expect ourselves to get in the same position this year – but this time around, getting that win.

Q: Now that you’re a senior – have you taken on more of a leadership role?

A: Definitely. I feel like I’ve had a larger presence on the court on both the offensive and defensive end.

Q: Being the host school for such a huge event has to be a cool feeling. What’s that like?

A: It is! It was really exciting during my freshman year, but now that I’ve been through this for a few years, I’ve been able to adjust and get used to it.

Q: Since many of these games are played on your home court, does that give you any added motivation?

A: It does because we have a banner hanging in our gym, and it doesn’t have our name on it.

Q: What is your favorite part of the Tarkanian Classic as a whole?

A: The Tarkanian Classic Presentation is always really cool.

Q: Finally, you just committed to play ball at the University of Washington. Why was that the perfect fit?

A: It feels like a family there. I like the place and coaches a lot and they made me feel like I was at home.

We’d like to thank Jamal for his time and wish him, and all the other athletes, good luck during this year’s Tark Classic. For more information, and ways you can catch the event yourself, visit tarkanianclassic.com.
