The Jordan ‘Be Like Mike’ Collection

Gatorade’s ‘Be Like Mike’ campaign first aired over 25 years ago, and went on to become one of the most iconic commercials of all time. The spot debuted in the summer of 1991, just after Michael Jordan won his first championship. His Airness was at the very beginning of what would become a historic title run and on the cusp of becoming a global icon.

The commercial showed kids looking up the world’s greatest basketball player and featured a catchy song that people still get stuck in their head today. Fun fact: The now-famous song almost never happened. Negotiations for the rights to use a different song fell through, forcing the team to create the original song at the last minute. After the commercial, the final scene read: “Be Like Mike. Drink Gatorade.” And the rest is history.

Now, over 25 years later, Jordan Brand is releasing a ‘Be Like Mike’ Collection to commemorate the iconic campaign and what it stands for. What began as motivation for young athletes to aspire to be like the great Michael Jordan on the court has now evolved into something that’s much bigger than basketball.

Being Like Mike doesn’t mean gravity-defying dunks and championship titles. It represents greatness in all of its forms. Decades after the initial campaign, ‘Be Like Mike’ continues to inspire generations of athletes to pursue excellence. ‘Be Like Mike’ doesn’t mean strive to be the best basketball player of all time. It means strive to be the greatest version of yourself at all times – just like Mike.

Apparel from the Jordan ‘Be Like Mike’ Collection is out now. You can check out some of the pieces from the collection below to see how Gatorade and Jordan have collaborated to create unique styles that include both brand logos, iconic colors, and classic design influences.  And stay locked to Eastbay’s social channels for release date information on ‘Be Like Mike’ footwear.
