The Inspiration Behind The Dame 3 and A KickGenius Review

And make sure you keep an eye out for a white colorway set to drop on 1/23, and 10 colors releasing over the next few months. Check out Jay’s take below and then keep scrolling to check out the story behind the design of the Dame 3.

The Story Behind The Dame 3

Damian Lillard has played in some of the world’s most famous arenas. From Madison Square Garden to Staples Center, Lillard has played on the biggest stages, under the brightest lights, and in front of thousands of fans.

But it all started in Oakland, California, where the future NBA star learned the game by shooting a ball into milk crates instead of a hoop. Lillard’s grandfather would use leftover plastic boxes from a nearby elementary school, cut out the bottoms, and nail them up on a telephone pole in the front yard so Dame could play basketball close to home.

It was a humble beginning that taught Lillard the toughness and determination that made him who he is today. Now, Lillard has a stacked résumé that includes All-Star Game appearances, All-NBA accolades, and three signature basketball shoes from adidas. He’s come a long way from shooting on milk crates, but Lillard has never forgotten who he is or where he came from.

“Working with adidas, every step of the way is about telling my story,” Lillard said in an adidas press release. “It’s allowing kids and people to relate to what I’ve been through. Everything has a story behind it.”

The makeshift milk crate basketball hoop would provide the back drop for the Dame 3, and there are also several subtle nods to his family and hometown throughout the shoe. The initials of his mother and two grandmothers are molded into the right toe, and the initials of his father and grandfather are on the left.

The longitude and latitude of Lillard’s Oakland neighborhood are featured on the outrigger of the left and right feet. The area code displayed on the telephone pole in front of his grandparents’ house where Lillard used to shoot at those milk crates is featured on the center of the outsole.

“WEARING THE LETTER O” is printed on the left sockliner, signifying the three places closest to Lillard’s heart: Oakland (where he grew up), Ogden, Utah (where he played in college), and Oregon (where he plays as a pro).

The Dame 3 is also outfitted with plenty of tech so you can dominate on the court. A customizable lacing system provides unrivaled lockdown and a personalized fit. The shoe features a fused mesh upper for durability without compromising on comfort and breathability. BOUNCE cushioning provides a natural court feel, so whether you’re shooting at milk crates or playing in the NBA, you’ll be able to play the game you love all day long.
