9.22 RELEASE REPORT: THE AJ 32S ARE FINALLY HERE + 2 NEW AJ RETROS
MJ's all-new signature shoe + 2 new AJ retros + new Air More Uptempos. This week's Release Report is fire.
Blake Griffin is constantly challenging himself. His career has been full of highlight reel plays and individual accolades, but he’s still pushing for more. He’s not satisfied yet – and he’s got his eyes set on a championship.
Off-season roster changes have Griffin facing an even bigger role in the 2017-18 season. To reach basketball’s pinnacle, Griffin knows he’ll have to rise to a new level and shine as the go-to player when it matters the most.
Now, he’s issuing that same challenge to you. Griffin challenges Eastbay readers: “Be the player your team counts on in big moments.”
Will you rise to the challenge? Basketball season is a few months away still, but Griffin knows preparation is key to success. He also knows he’ll need the proper tools to get the job done. Check out the Q&A, where Griffin went in-depth on one of his most important tools: the Jordan Super.Fly 2017.
“My biggest thing in a shoe is the support, the durability, and the responsiveness of the shoe. In other words, not feeling like you’re wearing a shoe, but that the shoe is just a part of you. Year after year, I think the Super.Fly continues to get better in all of those areas. I think the responsiveness of the shoe is as good as it’s been – the way it fits your foot, the comfort. The best shoe is the one you don’t feel like you’re actually wearing, and this is the shoe that nails that.”
“My favorite part of the shoe this year is definitely the technology on the bottom. I think with all the contact we make with the ground, with all the jumping we do and the hard cuts, you put a lot of wear and tear on the sole of the shoe. Any time a shoe is durable enough to take all that wear and tear, but at the same time moves well and doesn’t slip, that’s always a plus. This shoe has been great for all of that.”
“My favorite colorway so far is the blue and red colorway with the red Jumpman logo and everything else is blue. It’s like this material that nobody really knows what it is. From afar it looks different than it does up close, so I like to keep people guessing.”
“I think, for me personally, all of the characteristics of a shoe are tough to get in. I mean, you’re talking about having a durable shoe that is lightweight, which is a little bit contradictory for a person that weighs a lot, jumps a lot, and is moving around a lot. It’s tough to get all those qualities, so having those two things in a shoe is always a must. And like I said, year after year I keep noticing the Super.Fly gets better in those two specific areas. I always think, ‘Okay, well, this year it will probably be the most lightweight and durable and supportive it can get,’ and then somehow the next year it ends up better.”
“I think, for me, it’s the cushioning. Just being up in the air and jumping so much, the cushioning is big. Constantly going for rebounds, constantly in the paint trying to get up, the repetitive jumping over and over, that takes a toll after 82 games in a season. Then you have the playoffs, and not to mention the preseason and all that, so having a shoe that is forgiving and allows you to be a little bit fresher each time is great. You need a shoe that keeps your feet fresh and takes a little bit of that load off. I think this shoe does that with the amount of cushioning it has, along with every other feature.”
“For the most part, in the underfoot of a shoe, I’m looking for the resiliency of being able to take that load off. I’m a bigger player. At least 250 pounds. And every game, I need a shoe that’s able to bounce back with me and give me a little bit of help. I think that’s one of the main things I look for. Just giving me that cushioning and support, but also giving me a little help at the same time.”
“The first thing I think you notice about this shoe right away is the cushioning. The React Cushioning on the bottom, the responsiveness of it, just kind of goes along with you and aides you in making that move. It doesn’t feel like it’s a shoe where it only helps with straight forward running or side-to-side movement or jumping. It’s a combination of all those things. I think that’s tough to do – to be able to fit all that in a shoe – so definitely the React technology is something that jumps out at you right away.”
“Favorite Jordan shoe of all time has to be the Space Jam 11s.”
The first Jordan Super.Fly 2017 colorways are available now. Eastbay will have 11 colorways this season. The Super.Fly 2017 retails for $139.99.
