words // Brandon Richard

There was a party in the Garden last night, as is the case anytime the Los Angeles Lakers are in town for cross-conference showdown. However, the tables have been turned a little this season with the New York Knicks being amongst the league’s best and the Lakers struggling to put it all together. Both trends continued last night, as the Knicks led from start to finish and held on for a 116-107 home victory.

Before spraining his ankle in the third quarter, Carmelo Anthony was on fire shooting the ball. Melo hit 10 of his 15 shots for 30 points in just 22 minutes of action. No other player has scored 30 points in 22 minutes since David Robinson in 1995. Raymond Felton kept New York steady the rest of the way with 19 points and 8 assists, while J.R. Smith and Tyson Chandler each chipped in with 18.

With another 30+ point performance, the Lakers dropped to 1-10 this season when Kobe Bryant reaches the mark. He also pulled down 10 boards and dished out 6 assists in his brand new Nike Kobe 8 System sneakers, which will release here next Thursday.

The Knicks and Lakers will meet again on Christmas Day.

In today’s NBA Sneaker Watch, check out some of the basketball shoes worn in last night’s big game, as well as a few other highlights from the past week.
