After last week’s embarrassing loss to the Green Bay Packers, the Houston Texans looked to rebound on Sunday with the AFC powerhouse Baltimore Ravens in town. The matchup occurred just a week after the Ravens’ Ray Lewis and Houston’s Brian Cushing were each lost for the season. If the question heading into the game was which team would receive the biggest pick-me-up from its remaining players, the answer would have to be the Texans, who dominated Baltimore from whistle to whistle.
Baltimore got on the board first with an early 51-yard Justin field goal by Justin Tucker, but Houston would go on to score 29 unanswered points before halftime. Though the Ravens struck first again after the break, they ultimately had no answers for the Texans’ aggressive defense. Quarterback Matt Schaub completed 23 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns to lead Houston to a lopsided 43-13 victory. Running back Arian Foster helped the team’s cause with two touchdowns on the ground, while cornerback Jonathan Joseph picked off a Joe Flacco pass for a 52-yard touchdown to break the game open in the second quarter.
The Texans will now enjoy a bye week before hosting Buffalo during the first week of November.
Other notable Week 7 results included the 49ers holding off the Seattle Seahawks in a gritty defensive matchup; the Vikings topping the Arizona Cardinals in a clash of surprising teams; Eli Manning one-upping RG3 in a 27-23 Giants win over the Redskins; Andrew Luck and the Colts moving to .500 after holding off the Cleveland Browns; Tom Brady and the Patriots pulling off another last minute win against the division rival Jets; Pittsburgh making a push in the AFC North with a critical win in Cincinnati; and the Chicago Bears grinding out the Monday Nighter against Detroit.
