In the mid-60s, adidas designed and developed a tennis shoe for french tennis player Robert Haillet. It wasn’t until 1971 that American tennis star Stan Smith would wear the same shoe to win the US Open on grass and the Davis Cup on clay with Team USA.
A year later, adidas officially designated the world’s first ever leather tennis shoe a Stan Smith signature model. Stan would again wear the shoe as he slammed his way to the 1972 Wimbledon title.
Since its debut as a tennis shoe, the Stan Smith has been adidas’ best-selling shoe of all-time with more than 40 million pairs sold. Tomorrow, the iconic model makes its long-awaited return after being removed from shelves in 2012.
The Stan Smith is back, reinvigorated and updated for present day, while staying true to the look and shape of the original through the use highly sustainable and premium quality materials. Classic white-based styles will be available with green, black and red heel-tabs.
These iconic adidas tennis shoes are available now for $75 each in three white-based colorways and all-black.
