It’s been confirmed that the NBA will allow players to wear jerseys with their nicknames on the back during select games this season. According to ESPN, the Miami Heat and Brooklyn Nets will wear them when they meet March 12 and April 8.
Though the league has been tight-lipped about which nicknames will adorn the jerseys, legendary film director Spike Lee spilled the beans on one player’s earlier this week. On his Instagram page, he shared photos of Ray Allen’s ‘J. Shuttlesworth’ jersey, inspired by his character Jesus Shuttlesworth in Lee’s 1998 film He Got Game. Fifteen years have passed, but the film is one of the all-time greats in sports and the name has stuck with Allen throughout his Hall of Fame career.
Check out a few photos of Ray’s adidas basketball jersey below and let us know which other nicknames you’d like to see this season.
