Yesterday, six-time NBA champion and Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen celebrated his 48th birthday. Scottie made his Chicago Bulls debut as a 22-year old in 1987 and returned to the Windy City at age 38 to finish his career in 2003-2004. Almost 10 years later, Scottie is still one of basketball’s all-time most beloved players and his signature sneakers are still making an impact in today’s market.
For today’s Eastbay Memory Lane, we take a look back at a page from our 1998 Basketball catalog, headlined by Scottie and the Nike Air Pippen II. The II was Pip’s weapon of choice as the Bulls wrapped up a second three-peat and six championships in an eight-year span. Featuring a minimal design, the Air Pippen II featured a full-grain leather build, a Dynamic-Fit Lycra inner bootie, Zoom in the forefoot, Air in the heel and an Optimal Motion outsole.
Other classics on this page? How about Tim Duncan’s Total Air Foamposite Max? Charles Barkley’s Air CB II, Eddie Jones’ Jumpman Pro Quick, Vin Baker’s Jumpman Pro Strong and Tim Hardaway’s Air Zoom T-Bug Flight are a few of the other standouts you’ll notice.
Was the Air Pippen II or any of these other models on your feet in 1998? Share your memories with us below.
