Eastbay Memory Lane // Allen Iverson, September 2001

words // Brandon Richard

Yesterday, news broke that Allen Iverson is expected to officially expected to announce his retirement in the coming days. Iverson last played professionally in Turkey in 2011 and was last seen in the NBA in 2010.

Despite a few personal shortcomings that ultimately ended his NBA career, Allen Iverson was one of the greats in his day. Standing at a very arguable 6-feet tall, the man known as “The Answer” sliced through defenses en route to becoming one of the game’s all-time premier scorers.

If he indeed does call it quits soon, A.I. will finish with averages of 26.7 points, 6.2 assists, 3.7 rebounds and 2.2 steals. Yeah, that’s a pretty impressive line.

Celebrating this legendary career, today’s Eastbay Memory Lane focuses on our September 2001 issue featuring Iverson on the cover. The “out of this world” MVP was pictured in the Answer IV, one of several Allen Iverson Reebok shoes available here now. Tomorrow we’ll be releasing the “#1 Pick” Question, celebrating Iverson as the top pick in the 1996 NBA Draft.

Check out this vintage Eastbay cover below and share your favorite A.I. memory with us below.
