Eastbay Fantasy Challenge // Week 5

Eastbay Fantasy Challenge // Week 5

words // Brandon Richard

Under Armour started off strong, but has been down on their luck since Week 1 of the Eastbay Fantasy Challenge season. However, a balanced attack this past weekend helped them reclaim the throne for Week 5.

The quarterback crop was led by Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers/Nike/Alpha Talon Elite) and Peyton Manning (Denver Broncos/Reebok/Gameday Custom), who racked up 25.42 and 24.70 respectively. Tom Brady (New England Patriots/Under Armour/Fierce) was steady for UA, while Robert Griffin III’s (Washington Redskins/adidas/adiZero 5-Star Mid) concussion and early exit dealt a serious blow to adidas’ Week 5 hopes.

Julio Jones (Atlanta Falcons/Under Armour/Mercenary II) caught 10 balls for 94 yards and a touchdown, leading all receivers with a massive 22.8 total. Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona Cardinals/Nike/Vapor Talon Elite 3/4) followed with 9.2 points on eight catches for 92 yards. With Julio’s big day, Roddy White (Atlanta Falcons/Reebok/Gameday Custom) caught just four balls for 68 yards and Davone Bess (Miami Dolphins/adidas/adiZero 5-Star Mid) put together a subpar score of 4.90.

Team adidas got a much needed jolt from Frank Gore (San Francisco 49ers/adidas/adiZero 5-Star), who ran for 106 yards and a touchdown to lead the running backs with 16.6 points. Mr. Reliable Arian Foster (Houston Texans/Under Armour/Nitro IV Low) put together his usual mid-double-digit day, followed by a solid 11.80 outing by Ray Rice (Baltimore Ravens/Nike/Lunar Super Bad Pro). Maurice Jones-Drew continued to have a rough go at it, racking up just 56 yards for no scores in a blowout loss to the Chicago Bears.

It was an overall great week on the defensive side of the ball, starting with Von Miller (Denver Broncos/adidas/Malice 2 Fly) and his 8 tackle, 2 sack and 1 forced fumble performance. Ray Lewis (Baltimore Ravens/Under Armour/Fierce), David Harris (New York Jets/Reebok/Gameday Custom) and Clay Matthews (Green Bay Packers/Nike/Vapor Carbon Fly) each scored in the 4.0 to 5.0 range to round a productive week for the defenders.

With quality performances across the board, Under Armour grabs a much needed win to get back into the race. With Arian Foster constantly finding the endzone, it appears that UA will be a weekly threat. See how Week 5 broke down below.
