Eastbay Fantasy Challenge // Week 4

words // Brandon Richard

Fresh off of Reebok’s Week 3 Eastbay Fantasy Challenge victory, we’re back for another round – this time with the real refs making the calls.

For the first time in Eastbay Fantasy Challenge, Robert Griffin III did not lead the field in scoring. This time around, it was Cam Newton (Carolina Panthers/Under Armour/Cam Highlight) who took the top spot, racking up 31.2 points on three total touchdowns. Aaron Rodgers (Green Bay Packers/Nike/Alpha Talon Elite) followed closely with four touchdown passes for 28.06 points. RG3 (Washington Redskins/adidas/adiZero 5-Star) and Eli Manning (New York Giants/Reebok/Custom Cleats) each turned in sold performances with 23.22 and 18.36 points, respectively.

Wide receivers not named Roddy White didn’t offer much to their teams this week. Roddy (Atlanta Falcons/Reebok/Zig Blaze) was the week’s second highest scorer, grabbing 8 balls for 169 yards and two touchdowns in a 28.9 point effort. Calvin Johnson (Detroit Lions/Nike/Vapor Pro Low), Julio Jones (Atlanta Falcons/Under Armour/Mercenary III) and Titus Young (Detroit Lions/adidas/adiZero 5-Star) each scored 5.4 points or less.

Fantasy Challenge running backs had a solid week, led by Arian Foster (Houston Texans/Under Armour/Nitro Diablo) and his 15.4 points. Ray Rice (Baltimore Ravens/Nike/Lunar Superbad Pro TD) followed with 9.6, while DeMarco Murray (Dallas Cowboys/adidas/SuperCharge Mid) and Maurice Jones-Drew (Jacksonville Jaguars/Reebok/Zig Blaze) chipped in with 8.1 and 8.

DeMarcus Ware (Dallas Cowboys/Reebok/Custom Cleats) led all defenders for the second straight week, recording a sack, three tackles and a forced fumble against the Chicago Bears on Monday. Clay Matthews (Green Bay Packers/Nike/Vapor Carbon Fly) held steady with 4 points, while Ray Lewis (Baltimore Ravens/Under Armour) and Mario Williams (Buffalo Bills/adidas/Scorch X Mid) made modest contributions.

With these numbers, it was Reebok who claimed the top spot for the second consecutive week and third time overall. Though they turned over licensing rights, Reebok clearly has a roster of talented players. Are these early season wins a sign of things to come?
