Cover Athlete Interview // Kyrie Irving & the Nike Zoom HyperRev

words // Brandon Richard

When designing the Zoom HyperRev, Nike has the speed and quickness of emerging basketball star Kyrie Irving in mind. The shoe is engineered around the less-is-more design principle, maximizing the foot’s natural motion where it’s needed most.

The upper features a mesh and dynamic Flywire system made of strong, lightweight cables for lockdown support. Feel and responsiveness are enhanced with the combination of full-length Zoom cushioning and a lightweight Phylite midsole. The foam comfort of the collar and heel provide a proprioceptive feel combined with stability and support during quick lateral cuts.

HyperRev doesn’t officially launch until January 1, 2014, but you’ll be able to pre-order a pair of these unique new Nike basketball shoes here this weekend.

Marking the launch of the HyperRev, Kyrie Irving covers the newest Eastbay catalog hitting mailboxes next week. We also caught up with the phenom to discuss how the HyperRev maximizes his game and style, drills he uses to sharpen his famous ball handling skills and how playing with his dad helped him learn the game.

You can see the interview in the video above and the new Eastbay cover below.
