Why has the Kayano been the foundation of ASICS’ heralded running range? Simply put, it’s a model trusted by serious runners and approved by beginners. This time around, the GEL-Kayano is back lighter and faster, thanks to a half ounce drop in weight from last year’s model.
The GEL-Kayano 19 takes a “stop at never” by improving upon its award winning ride, comfort, and fit. ASICS’ flagship Structured Cushioning model sheds weight with features like a Heel Clutching System and Dynamic DuoMax support. This upper has been treated to strategically placed seamless overlays, which has led the brand to touting the 19 as the best in the series.
An Impact Guidance System (IGS) employs linked componentry to enhance the foot’s natural gait from heel strike to toe-off. Biomorphic Fit is a stretch material used on the upper to reduce buckling and irritation. Discrete eyelets ease lace tension and create a customized fit. An exoskeletal heel counter provides improved support and heel fit.
Rear and forefoot Gel Cushioning absorbs shock during impact and toe-off, allowing movement in multiple planes. Positioned sport specifically, a DuoMax midsole enhances support and stability. Vertical flex groove decouples the tooling along the line of progression for enhanced gait efficiency. Trusstic System reduces the weight of the sole unit while retaining the structural integrity of the shoe.
In the video clip above, ASICS triathlete and Ironman champion Andy Potts explains why he trains in the GEL-Kayano 19 and what the shoe means to him as an athlete, and to athletes in general.
“GEL-Kayano is an established shoe for serious runners, and we are continually striving to deliver compelling enhancements,” says Brice Newton, ASICS Running Footwear Product Manager. “The newest GEL-Kayano 19 is no exception, displaying the latest innovations to enhance the fit and feel for runners.”
Men’s and women’s colorways of these ASICS running shoes are available now.
