The AAU Sullivan Award: Another Winner Will Be Crowned

 

On April 17, the 88th AAU Sullivan Award winner will be announced. This prestigious award, given out annually to the nation’s top amateur athlete, is the perfect way to recognize the players who entertain, inspire, and motivate us the most.

This year’s finalists are as outstanding as it gets and one of them will join an incredible group of past winners that includes legends such as Peyton Manning, Shawn Johnson, and Michael Phelps. The event host this year will be 1981 AAU Sullivan Award winner and ‘Olympian of the Century’ Carl Lewis.

  • AAU Annika Albrecht

And then to be voted one of the finalists along with her, that’s just even more awesome and an unbelievable honor. I want to thank everyone who voted for us, and we will represent Husker Nation well in New York.”
  • AAU Annie Peavy
    Angela ‘Annie’ Peavy, Equestrian: “As a para equestrian my athletic endeavors always involve two hearts beating together, but every athlete knows it takes many hearts to rise up to your full potential. I am honored to be recognized for such a prestigious award with so many amazing fellow athletes. Thank you to the AAU and everyone who supported me.”
  • AAU Erin Finn
    Erin Finn, Track & Field: "I am deeply honored to be named a finalist for the Sullivan Award among such a stellar field of athletes. It is truly a testament to the team I have around me, ranging from training partners and coaches to supporters and mentors. I owe my accomplishments to those who have had faith in me throughout my trials and inspired me to believe in myself in my darkest hours. Furthermore, I have been overwhelmed by the support of my community through the semifinalist process; I had countless friends, acquaintances, and strangers reach out to me to show their support. This experience has cultivated an immense amount of gratitude for the wonderful people in my life."
  • AAU Joel Berry II
    Joel Berry II, Men’s Basketball: From 4.2 to 12.8 to 14.7 to 17.1, Joel Berry II has seen his points per game average rise during each of his four years at North Carolina. The guard has been a key leader and playmaker for a talented young team.
  • AAU Holly Hunter
    Kelly Hunter, Volleyball: “It’s such an honor to be chosen as one of the finalists for this award, and I’m thrilled to be able to go to New York and share this amazing experience with Anni and some of the best amateur athletes in the country. Obviously we wouldn’t have made it this far without the voting support from all the Husker fans all over the country, so we owe them a huge thank you for supporting us and making this opportunity possible.”
  • Kyle Snyder, Wrestling: "It is an honor to be one of the finalists for the 2018 AAU James E. Sullivan award. I am thankful that I was able to experience this event last year, and I am excited to be a member of this years finalist award class as well. I have been blessed with amazing opportunities to compete at a high level on elite stages, and want to thank God the chances to glorify Him."
